Trip to climb Mt. Whitney

Description: We will be car pooling to Tioga Pass in Yosemite to car camp and hike to begin getting acclimatized to altitudes of over 10,000 feet. Tuesday we will climb Mt. Dana (13,000 feet)to see how we're doing. Wednesday we'll drive to Lone Pine to pick up or permits and set up camp at some campground on the way to Whitney Portal the trailhead for our climb and return the same day. We'll plan on driving back on Friday. Unfortunately currently I have only one permit remaining (unless there's a cancellation). To secure a spot, please send a check for $16 to cover the cost of permit and lottery to Craig Keith, 8355 Westwood Dr., Gilroy, 95020. Camping expenses will be shared and each carpool will share the expenses of that carpool. As this IS NOT AN EASY CLIMB, I will be sending out information on things you will need and ways to cope with many possible challenges that we may face. It can be quite an adventure as it very much was for me last year - but great satisfaction in summiting the highest peak in the lower U.S. at 14,500 feet, plus I think it's a very beautiful mountain.
